APR (Annual Percentage Rate) is the total cost of borrowing expressed as a yearly rate, including both the interest rate and mandatory fees such as origination fees. If a lender charges 6% interest plus a 2% origination fee on a three-year loan, the APR is higher than 6% - often around 7.5–8% - because the fee is amortised over the loan term.
How is an auto loan different from a personal loan?
Auto loans are secured against the vehicle, which the lender can repossess if you default, while personal loans are typically unsecured.
